This shot reminds me of a great weekend in Biarritz last year and how much I would love to go back over.  In fact just to get away for a few days anywhere would be heaven. Unfortunately that’s not going to happen anytime soon due to financial circumstances but I can still look back at this photo and smile

Anyone who has submitted a landscape photo to a competition or for judging in their camera club will probably be familiar with “it needs an anchor point, a rock in the foreground to pull you into the photo”. If you where to look at me when I hear these comments I’ll usually be rolling my eyes. It’s the same old comments from judges in the competition rounds I have seen, “it’s not sharp”, “it should be divided into thirds”, “looks like you have a colour cast, perhaps you have a problem with your printer”, “I would crop it here, here, here and here”. God forbid you’d want to try something different. What encouragement does it give anyone if they put up something different and it’s dismissed straight away for any of the above. There is an agenda for some of these comments and it’s not for the benefit of the photographer. It’s usually for the benefit of the club. They want the very best ‘technical’ photos for national competitions. Photography should not be about technicalities, it should be about the photo. So I ask you, is this rock big enough for you?
